This year's theme is:

"Empowering the next generation for a resilient future"

NEMO highlights the ways public awareness, training and community outreach can equip youth in particular and the larger populace with greater tools for Comprehensive Disaster Management.

No Persistent Thermal Anomaly at La Soufriere

9 October, 2024

The low thermal anomaly first detected by the NASA FIRMS hot spot detection system on Sunday 6 October 2024, at the summit of La Soufrière volcano did not persist into Tuesday, 8 October.

This advisory was issued by the Seismic Research Centre (SRC) based at the University of the West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago, following a field visit to the volcano summit by the National Emergency Management Organisation’s (NEMO) Soufriere Monitoring Unit (SMU), on Tuesday 8 October.

Following the observations conducted at the volcano summit, the NEMO - SMU reported that no unusual activity was visible in the crater.

TEMPERATURES ABOVE EXISTING BACKGROUND (BASE) LEVELS DETECTED AT THE LA SOUFRIERE VOLCANO

NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

According to information received from the Seismic Research Centre at 2:38 p.m. today (Monday October 7, 2024); a low thermal anomaly (temperatures above existing background/base levels) was detected at the summit of the La Soufriere volcano by the NASA FIRMS hot spot detection system on Sunday October 6, 2024. This low thermal anomaly as detected by NASA FIRMS is currently ongoing.
