The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through its Office for Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) and the Florida International University (FIU) will host a four (4) day Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Instructor Training from the 22nd - 25th May, 2018.
The training specifically targets community leaders or persons with significant community involvement who are committed and willing to provide assistance to victims following an emergency until professional responders arrive.
The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) is seeking to build national capacity to broaden community self-sufficiency in preparing and responding to local events by training a cadre of persons as Instructors to deliver the CERT Basic Training Course.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Instructor Training Workshop will take place at NEMO’s Conference Room, Old Montrose, commencing at 8:00 am each day.
What is the CERT Program?
The Community Emergency Response Team program trains people to be better prepared to respond to crises in their communities. When emergencies happen, CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that improve the safety of the community.
The CERT training will build on these strengths by incorporating teamwork, problem solving and selected emergency management activities.
The Basic CERT Training introduces participants to the following:
- Orientation to community emergency response and disaster management theories.
- A refresher/overview in Basic First Aid and CPR.
- Light search and rescue, fire safety and fire suppression techniques.
- Problem solving, briefing techniques and team work.
