SVG METEOROLOGOCIAL SERVICE Issues Flash Flood Watch for St.Vincent and the Grenadines
A tropical wave that has medium (40%) chance of cyclone development would result pockets of moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorm activity and periods of light to moderate rain accompanied by gusty winds across St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) today and during early Tuesday. Rainfall accumulations of 50 to 75mm (2 to 3 inches) with possible isolated higher amounts in mountainous areas are anticipated. As a result, the weather advisory that was already in effect for a low risk of flooding for SVG is now upgraded to a Flash Flood watch and would remain in effect until 12 Noon Tuesday 3rd September 2024. Residents and motorists in areas prone to flooding and landslides or near rivers and streams should be prepared.
A Flood-Watch is issued when conditions are favourable and there exists the possibility of flooding during the watch period. This flash-flood watch may be upgraded to a warning if conditions warrant.
In addition, the expected wind gusts near showers will occasionally agitate the ocean surface and result in marine conditions shifting from slight to locally moderate/rough (~1.2m - 2.8m) at times. These conditions could be further exacerbated during times of high tide.
