On Tuesday 2nd December 2025 the UK based National Oceanography Centre, UWI Seismic Research Center and NEMO SVG hosted a one day workshop on Coastal and Ocean Impacts of Lahars at the UWI Global Campus in Kingstown St.Vincent and the Grenadines.

NOC Researchers Mike Clare and Isobel Yeo, along with Professor Richard Robertson of UWI SRC guided 15 participants from across sectors on the lasting impacts of Lahars/Mudflows on the coastal and riverine environments and ecosystems of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines post eruption of La Soufriere. These participants led conversations into the state of fisheries, coastal zone management, hazard identification other useful outputs from the impending scientific studies and data.Following the stakeholder session, the National Oceonography Centre will carry out offshore field work at Wallibou and Larikai. These excursions will gather seafloor data using robots for under-sea mapping to catalogue the shifts in terrain and the impacts of post eruption Lahars past the current body of knowledge.
